@4THE AMBLIN DEAL HAS FALLEN THROUGH!
===================================
@1
Well everyone can stop speculating, for the next few months at least, because
the deal to produce some new episodes of Doctor Who has fallen through!
Having seen so much speculative crap appearing in the press, TV, and this echo
I reluctantly decided to phone my contact at BBC Enterprises, yet again, and
ask her if there was any real news about the proposed series...
It turns out that the negotiations that *have* been taking place about the new
series over the last six months have been on a *tripartite basis* (something I
didn't realise until today) between BBC Enterprises, Amblin Television AND a
major TV Network. The talks have fallen through because the TV network
withdrew its support for the proposed project.
This has effectively put the talks on hold until such times as another major
network can be interested in the venture.
How long will this take? How long before we can seriously begin all this
ridiculous speculation about `who will play Who?'... Well let's put it this
way... My source at the BBC Enterprises is going off on six months maternity
leave starting mid-July. She is quite confident that she will be back at her
desk again for at least a couple of months before she will have to start
preparing press releases about the possible conclusion of a deal concerning
`New Who'! In other words you can forget about any official announcements
until early 1995 *at least*.
Right, so having told you all what the *real* truth about the future of the
Doctor Who series I suppose I can leave you all to carry on believing the
detritus that appears in the press... 8-)
